Elegant LInes and Dasher

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here is a card we made in class this month.  The Dasher stamp is one of my all time favorites.  It is an individual stamp from Stampin' Up!'s a la carte section of the catalog.

The card base is Whisper White card stock.  The next layer is also Whisper White card stock.  This one has been run through the Big Shot using the gorgeous Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. "Peace on Earth" is from the stamp set, Four the Holidays.  It is stamped in Versamark and dusted with Silver Embossing Powder.  I applied the Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder.  Is it just me, or does everyone love to see the metallic embossing powders just explode into shininess? 

At this point, I stamp my sentiment inside and heat emboss as I did with the greeting on the front.  You should always leave yourself a second chance to stamp the inside whenever possible, because, well, nobody's perfect.  This way if you don't like how it came out, you can refold the card body and use your front layer to cover up your least favorite result.

A piece of Whisper White Organza Ribbon is placed across the embossed layer and adhered on the back side.  This layer is attached to the card front using a fairly generous amount of SNAIL adhesive.  I used the new Dazzling Details, a glitter glue,  from the Holiday Mini catalog and "filled in" some of the embossed circles to add some sparkle.  Set this aside to give the glue time to dry.   This is one of my favorite new products in the Holiday Mini Catalog.

Dasher is stamped on Whisper White card stock in Versamark and heat embossed in silver as above.  This is layered on a piece of Brushed Silver card stock.  It's attached to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. 

A second piece of Whisper White Organza ribbon is slipped under the previously attached piece and tied in a knot.  I snuck a Mini Glue Dot under the knot to keep it in place.

Isn't this an elegant card?  It would be very fast and easy to make a dozen in no time at all.  One of the advantages in having white on white layers is that if your greeting isn't as straight as you would like, you can mount your layer a little off, keeping your greeting straight, and it won't be noticeable at all!  I'd love to hear what you think of this card.  Please leave a comment and make my day!

Top Note Thank You

Hi Stamping Friends,

I needed to make a few thank you cards for quilter friends, so decided to bring back the quilted top note design.  They all like bright colors, so I'm using the Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack. 

I punched twelve 1-1/4" squares in assorted colors/patterns and arranged them in a design I liked.  I used SNAIL Adhesive to glue these on to a piece of 4" x 5" Whisper White card stock in three rows of four.  I trimmed off any excess white and marked the centers of each side.  I lined up the tick marks with the points on the Top Note die and ran it through the Big Shot.  Then, I trimmed off the 1/8" edge.  I also ran a piece of Basic Black card stock through using the Top Note die.  I layered these using SNAIL Adhesive for a nice contrast.  It really pops with the Basic Black border.  Finally, I ran this piece through the Big Shot using the Lattice Square Embossing Folder.

I used a bow maker and 1/4" Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon to make a small bow.  I wrapped the ends to the back and secured with SNAIL. 

I stamped Thank You from the stamp set, Curly Cute, in Basic Black classic ink on Whisper White card stock and punched using the Modern Label Punch.  I also punched two more from Basic Black card stock.  I cut one in half along the length and the other in half along the width and adhered to the back of "Thank You" using SNAIL Adhesive. 

I attached the "quilt" to the card front using a very generous amount of SNAIL Adhesive.  Then, I added the greeting with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Elements of Style Meets Beau Chateau

Here's a card I made for Sketch Challenge172 over on Create with Connie and Mary.  Here's the sketch.

I've had the Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper for a while and wanted to use if for this sketch.  This DSP coordinates very nicely with the Elements of Style stamp set.

The card base is Marina Mist card stock.  The next layer is Naturals Ivory card stock that has been run through the Big Shot using the Finial Press Embossing Folder and sponged lightly using Crumb Cake classic ink.  I used two of the patterns from the Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper.  All these layers are attached using SNAIL Adhesive.

For the ribbon element, I started with a strip of Marina Mist card stock.  I punched using the Eyelet Border Punch and than ran it through the Crimper.  I layed down a piece of Sticky Strip and then added the crimped, punched strip.   I layered a piece of 5/8" Victoria Crochet Trim and wrapped around the Naturals Ivory layer.  I made a faux bow* using the Victoria Crochet Trim and the 1/8" Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon and secured with an Antique Brad. I used several Mini Glue Dots to attach to the card.  I stamped the "for you" from the Elements of Style stamp set in Marina Mist classic ink, pierced a hole and secured it to the lace using a Vintage Trinket safety pin.   I added a small piece of Stampin' Dimensional under it to hold in place.

For the (other) focal image, I used the hummingbird from the Elements of Style stamp set and sponged Marina Mist and Early Expresso classic ink.  This is stamped on a scrap of Naturals Ivory card stock.  I trimmed using my Paper Snips, added a tiny Jewels Basic Pearl for the eye and set aside.

I used Naturals Ivory card stock and the oval from the Designer Frames Embossing Folder set and ran it through the Big Shot.  I trimmed around the frame and sponged with Crumb Cake classic ink.  I stamped the flower stem stamp from Elements of Style in Marina Mist and punched an oval from it using the Extra Large Oval Punch.  This is attached to the center of the frame with SNAIL and to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I used Dimensionals to attach the bird to the frame.

Frosty Stitched Stocking

Here's a card we made in class last month.  The ribbon/snowflake element was inspired by a card I saw on Jan Tink's Blog.

I seem to be really liking the mostly white Christmas cards this year.  I'll have another later on.  Here is one I did earlier.  This one uses my favorite new In Color - Pool Party. 

The base is Whisper White card stock.  The next layer is Pool Party card stock.  Layered on this is another piece of Whisper White card stock that has been run through the Big Shot using the Northern Flurry Embossing Folder.  The layers are attached using SNAIL Adhesive.  I've added a few Jewels Basic-Rhinestones to the center of the snowflakes.

The stocking is from the Holiday Mini catalog stamp set called Stitched Stockings.  It's stamped on Whisper White card stock in Pool Party classic ink.  It's punched out using the Stocking Builder Punch, also from the Holiday Mini catalog.  I've added a Rhinestone in the center of the snowflake.  If using the Clear Mount stamps, Clear Block "D" will accommodate all the stamps in the set.

The embellishment consists of a Die-Cut Snowflake, White Organza Ribbon, Pool Party 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon, another Die-Cut Snowflake and a Silver Mini Brad.  I used the Paper Piercer and Mat Pack to pierce through all the layers, including the stocking, and inserting a Mini Silver Brad.  The entire element is attached to the card front using several Mini Glue Dots.  I did add a Stampin' Dimensional under the toe of the stocking. 

The Snowflake Die Cut is made using the Big Shot and the Northern Frost Decorative Sizzlit Die.  You will need the Decorative Strip Cutting Pads and Spacer Platform.  This Sizzlit cuts 8 different snowflakes.  Click on the link for a closer look.

The greeting is from the stamp set, Christmas Greetings - one of my personal favorites, and is stamped in Pool Party Classic Ink on Whisper White card stock.  I used my Paper Snips to cut dovetails on the ends.  It's attached to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

This is a great stamp set and has a lot of different ways you can use the stockings, some very non-traditional.  I'll show you some in another post.  Here's what comes in the stamp set.  Aren't they cute?

Clean and Simple Thank You

Here's a card I made for two challenges - ColourQChallenge #102 and Stamping 411 SSC221.   The colors included in this weeks challenge are:  Basic Gray, Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery, Poppy Parade and Whisper White.  I wanted to go clean and simple this time.  

The card base is Basic Gray card stock.  The next layer is Tempting Turquoise card stock.  This is topped by a piece of Whisper White card stock that has been run through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

"Thank You" is from the Curly Cute stamp set and is stamped in Basic Gray classic ink on Whisper White card stock.  I used the Simply Scored Stylus* to flatten out the embossing under the greeting so it would be as flat as possible.  All layers are attached to the card front using SNAIL Adhesive.

I die-cut/embossed two hearts using the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit Die and the Big Shot, one in Poppy Parade and one in Certainly Celery card stocks.  I used Mini Glue Dots to attach the Celery Heart and Stampin' Dimensionals for the Poppy Parade Heart. 

I punched two flowers from the Itty Bitty Punch Pack in Tempting Turquoise card stock.  I added a new Mini Silver Brad in the center of each and attached with Mini Glue Dots.  I love these new Mini Brads. They are softer and much easier to open.  The "legs" were sticking out from beneath a little bit, but a quick snip with my scissors took care of that.

* Use a small, circular motion to flatten the embossed area.

Triple Treat Flower Meets Spice Cake

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here is a card I made for the Saturday Sketch Challenge 216 over on Stamping 411.  As you know, I love sketch challenges.  This card also gives you a sneak peak at some fabulous new Designer Series Paper that will be in the Holiday Mini Catalog beginning September 1st.  It's called Spice Cake and coordinates with Soft Suede, More Mustard, Pool Party, Pear Pizzaz, River Rock and Very Vanilla card stocks and inks.  

For my card I used Soft Suede card stock as the base.  This is layered with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock that has been run through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  The crossing strips are cut from the Spice Cake Designer Series Paper.


The focal image is stamped in three layers.  The first layer is stamped in More Mustard Classic Ink on Very Vanilla card stock.  The next two layers are stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla card stock.  The More Mustard layer has the outer edge trimmed with Paper Snips so as to leave a border on the base piece.  This is Pool Party card stock that has been punched using the Fancy Flower Punch.  One of the Soft Suede stamped images is punched using the 5-Petal Flower Punch.  I added a little detail with the Pool Party Stampin' Write Marker. The other image is punched using the 1/2" Circle Punch.  These are layered using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Click on photos for a larger view.  I've used both Mini Glue Dots and/or Stampin' Dimensionals to attach this to the card body

Grunge Rock Meets Mojo Monday 183

Hi Stamping Friends,

I made this card using the Mojo Monday 183 sketch challenge, yes, from last March...lol.  It uses the stamp set, Grunge Rock. I went all out using lots of products because it was for a special friend, LoriAnn, who is a very talented singer and muscian.

The card base is Crumb Cake card stock.   The next layer is Neutrals White card stock.  Moving forward is a layer of Blushing Bride card stock.  It is embossed using the Big Shot and Vintage Wallpaer Embossing Folder.  The lower edge is punched using the Eyelet Border Punch and the edges are distressed using the Distressing Tool from the Cutter Kit.  I very lightly sponged Crumb Cake around the edge, but it's hard to see.

I used a piece of Neutrals Patterns DSP in Crumb Cake for one of the elements.  I sprayed lightly with water and crumpled it.  After opening and spreading it out, I set it aside to dry.  When dry, I sponged the edges and lightly over the creases.  I used the Music Notes Wheel and Crumb Cake Classic Ink and ran  over this piece a few times.

The focal image uses the guitar from the stamp set, Grunge Rock.  It's stamped in Crumb Cake classic ink on Neutrals White.  Several other stamps from the same set are stamped in both Crumb Cake and Blushing Bride Classic Ink.  The guitar is stamped again on scrap card stock, trimmed with Paper Snips, and popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The Neutrals White and Crumb Cake mat are distressed and also sponged. 

There is a strip of Crumb Cake card stock across the lower part that is torn across the bottom edge.  I wrapped Victoria 5/8" Crochet Trim across the top edge of this piece, securing each end on the back side.  I made a bow and used an Antique Brad in the center.   This is adhered using Mini Glue Dots.

The medallion is stamped with another image from the Grunge Rock stamp set in Crumb Cake.  It's punched using the 1-1/4" Circle Punch.  This is layered on a Blushing Bride 1-3/8" Circle Punch.  The scallop circle is a scrap of Crumb Cake that had been embossed using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  It's punched using the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch and attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I Dig You!

Here's a card I made for my 2-1/2 year old grandson.  He is all boy and LOVES trucks, diggers...you name it and he loves it and knows what the proper name is...LOL.  As soon as I saw this stamp set in the new Idea Book & Catalog, I knew I had to have it.  I had fun with punches on this one.

I covered two different challenges on this card.  The first is SFF080511 at Sketch Frenzy Friday and the second is CMCC161 from Create with Connie and Mary.  The color challenge was to use Old Olive, Daffodil Delight and Basic Black.

The card body is Basic Black card stock.  The next layer is a narrow mat of Daffodil Delight card stock.  I used the new Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Stripes and the Big Shot on the Old Olive card stock layer.

The focal image has layers of Basic Black and Daffodil Delight card stock.  The image is from the stamp set, I Dig You, from Stampin' Up!.  It's stamped on Whisper White card stock in Daffodil Delight classic ink.  I used the 3/4" Circle Punch for the Basic Black wheels.  I used a strip of Daffodil Delight card stock and punched two holes, about an inch apart, using the 1/16" Hand Held Circle Punch.  Then, I used the the small circle from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack, centering the 1/16" hole before punching.  I added a Black Brad from the Neutrals Brad Collection in each tire.  I used Mini Glue Dots to attach over the stamped wheels.

I stamped the greeting from the same stamp set in Basic Black classic ink on Daffodil Delight card stock and punched using the Word Window Punch and attached using SNAIL Adhesive.  I used the Ticket Corner Punch in each corner of the Whisper White card stock.  Then, I attached this to the two-layer mat.  Before attaching to the card body, I made a pencil mark in each corner, punched with the 1/16" punch and added Old Olive Brads from the Brights Brad Collection.

Extreme Elements Meets Summer Splash

I really love color challenges! Not only do they take me out of my comfort zone, but I use color combinations I would never have thought of.  I made this card for ColourQ Challenge #95.  The colors used are Early Expresso, Calypso Coral, Pool Party, Island Indigo and Whisper White.  I decided to use today's sketch from Create with Connie & Mary.

The card starts with Early Expresso card stock as the base.  This is layered with Calypso Coral card stock, followed by Whisper White card stock.  The Whisper White is stamped using images from Stampin' Up!'s Extreme Elements stamp set and Pool Party and Island Indigo Classic Inks. 

I ran the Calypso Coral card stock strip through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and the Island Indigo card stock strip using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Attach these using SNAIL Adhesive. 

I stamped the surfboard images from Summer Splash in Pool Party, Calypso Coral and Island Indigo Classic Inks and trimmed them out using my favorite - Paper Snips.  These are attached to Whisper White card stock using Stampin' Dimensionals. I used Clear Block "E" with the surfboards image.

Before attaching this element, I wrapped 1/4" Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon around the layers and tied a simple square knot.  This element is attached to the card body using SNAIL Adhesive.  Finally, the surfboard element is attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I'm going to be sorry to see Summer Splash go.  It is in the Summer Mini Catalog, which ends August 31st.  It has the cutest images, especially for beach lovers. 

This fun card is great for male or female, young or young at heart.

White Christmas

Hi Stamping Friends,

You know I love doing challenges!  This card features two challenges.  One is for a group I belong to called LateNightStampers.  They have weekly challenges and this week's was to make an all white card with only the sentiment showing color.  I have also used this week's sketch challenge over on Splitcoaststampers.

The only stamping on this card is the greeting, which is from the stamp set called Four the Holidays.  It is stamped on Whisper White in Island Indigo Classic Ink.

The entire card is made from Whisper White card stock.  The base is cut 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4".  The first layer is cut 5-1/4" x 4" and is run through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Before I attach this to the card body using Stampin' Dimensionals, I completed the following details.

I embossed a piece of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot and the Perfect Details Texturz Plate.  For this plate you will also need the Standard Texturz Impressions Pad and the Standard Texturz Silicone Rubber.  I cut the embossed piece into four strips and attached using SNAIL Adhesive.  I added the stamped greeting strip, again using SNAIL.

I ran another strip of Whisper White card stock through he Big Shot using the Northern Frost Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die.  This is an extra long die (XL) so you will need the Decorative Strip Spacer Platform and Cutting Pads.  I sprayed the die cut snowflakes with a mixture of about an ounce of rubbing alcohol and several drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed in a small spray bottle (shake well and often) to add shimmer.  You could also use a sponge to just dab the shimmer paint on the snowflakes.  I attached these using Stampin' Dimensionals and added some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the centers.

I did use the Big Shot with various folders and dies for adding a lot of texture.  When making a card with just one color, especially in white, adding texture really ups the WOW factor.

ETA:  I used the Round Tab Punch to get the curves at the bottoms of the strips.  I pushed them in as far as they would go...won't go far.  Click photo for a larger view.
