Plane & Simple Colour Q #90

Hi Stamping Friends,

I discovered a great challenge blog called Colour Q.  Each week they give you a color combination based on an inspiration piece and you make a project using those colors.  This is my first color challenge with them.    Here are this week's colors:  Colour Q Challenge #90. 

I needed a birthday card for a pilot friend so used the retired Stampin' Up! set called Plane & Simple.  Brilliant Blue is a retired color, so I used Pacific Point, which is very close.  The card base is Pacific Point card stock.

I created a strip using a decorative image from Plane & Simple, stamping in Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point and Poppy Parade Classic Inks on Whisper White card stock.  This is layered on a Tempting Turquoise mat and attached to the card front using SNAIL Adhesive.

The focal image starts with Whisper white card stock.  I punched out a scallop circle and sponged around it using Bashful Blue Classic ink to give the illusion of clouds. 

I stamped the plane in Poppy Parade Classic Ink on this panel.  This is attached to a mat of Tempting Turquoise.  I added Silver Brads in each corner, punching the holes first with the 1/16" Hand Held Circle Punch.  This is attached to the card front using SNAIL Adhesive as well as Mini Glue Dots under the corners for extra hold.

 I stamped the plane again on a scrap of Whisper White and trimmed using my Paper Snips.  I added Stampin' Dimensionals to the back.  I used another scrap of Whisper White card stock and stamped the "happy birthday" from the same set in Pacific Point Classic Ink.  I used White Baker's Twine (which is hard to see) to attach the banner to the plane.  I added a Silver Brad to hold the twine on the banner and a Mini Glue Dot to hold to the card front.  I positioned the plane right over the image I stamped on the cloud base.

So, what do you think?  Do you like it?  I am thrilled with how it turned out.

Challenges are a great way to take you out of your comfort zone.  You might find a color combination or layout that you love and would never have thought of!

Gift Certificate Holder with Box

Hi Stampers,

Now that Christmas is over, I can show you this project.  It is a Gift Certificate Holder/Envelope with a custom made box.  Each Christmas one of my dear friend/customer's hubby gets her a gift certificate and each year I try to come up with something worthy of such a gift.  All stamps and Designer Paper were from the Holiday Mini Catalog and are no longer available.  All supplies are © Stampin' Up! with the exception of the crochet thread and the business envelope.

I started with a business size envelope, 9-1/2" x 4-1/8".  After sealing it, I trimmed off about 3-1/2".  On this piece, I stamped the stockings from A Cute Christmas twice in Jet Black Stazon and colored using Garden Green, Real Red and Baja Breeze Stampin' Write Markers.  I added a strip of the glittered striped Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper along the cut edge and then punched using the Scallop Edge Border Punch.  Being careful not to cut through both layers,  I used the Hobby Blade to cut two slits on either side of the stamped image and threaded Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon around and through the slits, tying a bow on the right side.

On the bottom portion, I attached a different pattern of the same Candy Cane Christmas paper that coordinates with the stamp I used.  After adhering with SNAIL adhesive, I ran it through the Crimper, making it just small enough to fit inside the decorated top portion.

The tag is from the set Tags Til Christmas and is stamped in Baja Breeze Classic ink on a scrap of Whisper White card stock.  It's punched using a 1-3/4" Circle Extra Large Punch.  I used a 1/8" hand held circle punch and then, threaded Crochet Thread to attach to the ribbon.  I colored the snowman's scarf using a Real Red Stampin' Write marker and a Basic Black Stampin Write marker for the hat.

For the box, I measured the envelop and added approximately 1-1/2" all around.  I scored in 1/2" on each side for both top and bottom.  The bottom uses Garden Green card stock and the top is the same paper from Candy Cane Christmas that I used on the envelope top.

This can be made using any stamp set, with or without the designer series paper.  I'd like to point out that I did try and use designer paper on both the front and back of the envelope bottom and it did not crimp enough to fit into the top portion of the envelope.  You can use the same basic directions using the Medium Envelopes, adjusting the measurements proportionally.

40th Anniversary Love You Much

Here's a card I made for our friends.  They are celebrating their 40th (Ruby) anniversary this weekend.  I used the stamp set, Love You Much, by Stampin' Up!  The card base is Whisper White card stock.  I did not have an appropriate sentiment for the inside, so I printed one (after much trial and error) to the inside of the card base. 

The next layer is Basic Gray card stock onto which is layered Whisper White that has been embossed with the Big Shot and the Small Dot Texture plate.  This has been wrapped with the Whisper White Organza ribbon.

The focal image was colored using Basic Black and Real Red Stampin' Write markers.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig right from the start because I only wanted to do this one time.  Their hats are made using the 1/4" square punch for him in Basic Gray and the 1/4" circle punch for her in the Real Red.  Brims for both were hand cut.  I added a tiny spot of Blush Blossom to the bride's cheek.

The greeting is from the retired Hugs & Wishes and was stamped in Basic Gray Classic ink also using the Stamp-a-ma-jig. 

This was layered onto Basic Gray card stock and wrapped with the Whisper White Organza ribbon.  I punched two overlapping holes in each corner using the 1/16" circle punch and added the smallest Fire Circle Rhinestone brads. 

Stampin' Dimensionals were used to attach the layers to the card base.

Just Beachy Watercolor Thank You

Hi Stampers!

I love the beach!!  In case you're interested, Palm Coast, FL, where I live, is located on the Atlantic coast in between the nation's oldest city, St. Augustine, and the world famous Daytona Beach.  Much to my amazement, there are people living here who do not like the beach!  I know!!  It came as a big surprise to me!  Who would think?  Well, each to his own.  There are plenty of other things to love about living here besides the beach, the weather being No. 1!

Here's a cute thank you card I needed for a beach-loving person.  The card measures 4-1/2"x 4-1/2" square.  The card base uses Soft Suede card stock.  A layer of Very Vanilla is next.  This is topped by a layer of Bermuda Bay Textured card stock that has been pierced using the Mat Pack and Paper Piercing Tool.  A strip of Dusty Durango card stock is layered with a piece of Soft Suede Polka Dot grosgrain ribbon.  I am using the back side of the ribbon.  These layers are secured using Very Vanilla 5/16" Jumbo Brads in the Neutral Assortment.

The main image is from the retired Occasions Mini Catalog set called Just Beachy.  The image is stamped using Jet Black Stazon on Watercolor Paper.  I used the Aqua Painter and various colors of ink* including Bashful Blue, Bermuda Bay, Creamy Caramel, Soft Suede, Dusty Durango and Going Gray (tires).  This is layered on Dusty Durango card stock and adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The sentiment is from the set, Thank You Kindly.  It is stamped using Soft Suede Classic ink and punched using the new Modern Label Punch.  It is attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.  The inside is layered with a piece of Very Vanilla card stock to provide a nice writing surface.

*  When using the Aqua Painter, there are several ways to utilize the ink colors.  You can use the Stampin' Write markers by outlining the image and then drawing the color out from there (see the truck) with the Aqua Painter or small watercolor brush.  You can also squeeze your closed Classic Ink Pad before opening.  This gives you a pallet on the inside of the lid from which to pick up your color.  If you are using the Stampin' Spots for your ink, you can take the open spot and press it to the plastic lid of your stamp box to give you a pallet.  And don't forget when watercoloring, make sure you stamp your image using a waterproof ink such as Stazon!  Stampin' Up!'s basic neutrals (black, brown and gray) will become waterproof after allowing to dry for 10-15 minutes before watercoloring.

Beachy Birthday

Here's a card I made after being inspired by a quick visit to the beach Sunday.  I gave it to my husband for his birthday card so I could keep it in the family :o).  I decided to use SC157 from over on Splitcoast for my card layout.  The card base is Stampin' Up's Kraft cardstock.  This is stamped first with Old World Map, now retired, lightly inked in Creamy Caramel Classic Ink, from the Earth Elements family.  Then it is overstamped with Canvas, also using Creamy Caramel.  I sponged the edges with Close to Cocoa ink.  I used Blush Blossom ink to stamp assorted shells from the retired set, Stipple Shells, onto the Blush Blossom Cardstock and also sponged the edges with the same color.  The edges of all the panels are distressed using the distressing tool in the Cutter Kit .  I layered the Blush Blossom panel onto the Close to Cocoa Cardstock which I used as the base layer in all the elements.  I wrapped the panel with gold cord and linen thread, adding a small shell to each end.  The focal image is the large shell from the retired set, Beautiful Beach.  I stamped this on Very Vanilla Cardstock with Close to Cocoa Ink.  Using a Blender Pen and Blush Blossom Ink, I colored in the shell.  I used Crystal Effects and applied with a small brush to the inside of the shell to make it shine.  I used Close to Cocoa and Blush Blossom with a background stamp from Itty Bitty Backgrounds to add some texture and dimension to both image pieces.  I also trimmed out around the top of the shell image for that "Out of the Box" look.  The lower panel was stamped with shells, again from Beautiful Beach stamp set in Close to Cocoa on Natural Ivory cardstock, with the shells lightly colored using the Blush Blossom marker.  I used Crystal Effects to attach the shells and some small pieces off Coquina that is in our beach sand.  The Itty Bitty Background completes the look.  The two image panels are mounted using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I also used a Mini Glue Dot under each of the hanging shells to stabilize them.  I love how this card turned out.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Double Doodle Get Well

I needed a Get Well card and came up with this combining a Color Challenge and a Sketch Challenge from SCS.  CC134 was to use Blue Bayou, Chocolate Chip and River Rock in your card.  SC144 can be found here.  I used River Rock cardstock as the card body and layered it on Blue Bayou cardstock.  The vertical panel is Blue Bayou Designer Paper layered onto Chocolate Chip cardstock.  The corners are embellished with Metallic Eyelets in Antique Brass.  Continuing the paisley theme of the Designer Paper, the horizontal panel is Whisper White cardstock and is stamped with the Paisley Row stamp from the set Double Line Doodles .  I've colored it with markers and/or blender pens in Blue Bayou, River Rock and Chocolate Chip Classic Inks.  Metallic Eyelets are also used in the corners of this panel.  Edges were sponged with River Rock ink.  The sentiment is from the set Sincere Salutations.  It's stamped using Chocolate Chip ink on River Rock cardstock and layered on Chocolate Chip cardstock.  If you would like to learn how to take your choice of sketch and take it through to a finished card, I'd love to help you learn how.  Contact me for more information.
