Snow Much Fun Christmas

Hi Stamping Friends,

I want to share one of the Christmas cards I sent this year, inspired by a card I saw made by Linda Heller.  We also made these in class this month. Everyone loved it and really enjoyed making it.

I used the Stampin' Up! set called Snow Much Fun.  Marina Mist card stock is a great color to use for winter cards and perfect for snowmen.  I also used the Frostwood Lodge Designer Series Paper for the "ribbons" on the medallion.

The snowman was stamped on Vellum card stock and in Basic Black Classic Ink and colored on the back side with Basic Gray, Pumpkin Pie, Marina Mist and Real Red Stampin' Write Markers.  It's layered on Whisper White to really make the colors stand out.  I used Mini Glue Dots sparingly under colored portions of the Snowman, so the adhesive wouldn't show through the Vellum card stock.

The Whisper White card stock layered on the card front was run through the Big Shot using the Snowburst Embossing folder.  The medallion was stamped with a greeting from Petite Pairs stamp set and punched with the 1-3/8" circle punch.  This is layered on the 1-3/4" Scallop Circle.

This is such a cute, cute set.  I'll be showing another card we made in class using the same set.  The Frostwood Lodge DSP and the Snowburst Embossing Folder are in the Holiday Mini Catalog, which expires on Jan. 3rd.  So, if you were planning on buying these, be sure you get them before January 3, 2012!

Northern Frost Wreath

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here's a card I made for two challenges...ColourQChallenge#113 and Stampin' Queens Sketch Challenge 15.  Click the links to check out both.  All supplies used are © Stampin' Up!  In order to have more time to create projects to show you, I will be paring down the amount of information I write about.  I will give you the Supply Lists and if you have any questions about how something was created, please don't hesitate to email me.

The colors used starting with the base are Sahara Sand, Whisper White, Night of Navy, Marina Mist and Bashful Blue.  I used the Snowburst, Square Lattice and Perfect Polka Dots Embossing forlders on the Blues.  The wreath is made with Snowflakes die cut using the Northern Frost Sizzlits Strip die and adhered to a Whisper White wreath I made using punches.  I sponged Bashful Blue Classic Ink and then Frosty White Shimmer Paint on the snowflakes.  The centers are Silver Glimmer Paper.

The bow is made from 1/8" Marina Mist Taffeta Ribbon.  The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes. Click on the images for a larger view.

Happy Halloween!

Hi Stamping Friends,

I hope you're all ready for trick or treating today.  My heart goes out to all of you in the North that have been blasted by the early snowfall!  I hope you're staying warm and have power and don't really have to go anywhere for a few days.

Here's a card we made in class this month.  I've seen the coloring of the focal image all over the internet so have no specific person to give credit to.  Whomever you are, thank you for your inspiration.

This is called a side step card.  You start with the same size card base as your typical card, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2".

I don't have step by step photos to show you how I did the cutting and scoring, but do have the measurements and steps for you.  Practice on printer paper before using your good card stock.

1.  I started with a piece of Basic Black card stock - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2".  I placed it in my Fiskars Cutter with the short end at the top and the left edge at the 3" cutting line.  I positioned the cutter at the 1" mark on the ruler and cut down to the 6-1/2" mark.  This gives you a left side that is 3" and a right side of 2-1/2".  If you're not familier with Fiskars Cutter, it's pictured below and the ruler I'm referring to is the clear plastic along the right that the cutter floats in.

2.  Turn your piece clockwise one quarter turn so the long edge and the 3" width are at the top.  Score at 4-1/4" just to the cut line.  The remaining score lines are going to be from the cut edge down. Score at 1", 2", 3-1/4", 4-1/2" and 6-1/2", from the cut edge down.

3.  With the 3" width on your left, crease the score line on  that side in the mountain fold /\.   On the right side the 1" will be a mountain fold /\; 2" score a valley fold \/; 3-1/4" mountain /\; 4-1/2" valley \/ and 6-1/2" a mountain fold /\.  You're finished with your card base.

I used the House of Haunts stamp set for this card.  The house and the greeting are stamped in Versamark on Whisper White card stock and heat embossed using Black Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.

The moon is masked with a post-it note circle punched with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch.  Make sure you punch where some of the sticky will still be on the circle.  I started sponging with Daffodil Delight classic ink, covering all the white space down to the graveyard, including the windows.  Next, I used Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink, leaving the Daffodil Delight showing close to the moon.  This is followed by Tangerine Tango sponging and ending with Perfect Plum sponging right around the edges.  I removed the mask and dragged the sponge with Perfect Plum across the moon a little bit - can't really see it in the picture - to look like clouds.  I colored the windows that had been covered by the mask with the Daffodile Delight Stampin' Write marker.  I sponged the bottom tombstone area with Old Olive Classic Ink.  This piece is layered on Basic Black  and Pumpkin Pie card stock and attached to the card using SNAIL Adhesive.

I cut a strip of Old Olive card stock and and stamped the pumpkin from the same set in Versamark, to give a little tone on tone.  Then, I snipped the long edge with my Paper Snips to look like grass.  This is attached to the card front using SNAIL Adhesive. 

The greeting is layered on Pumpkin Pie card stock and attached using SNAIL.

The pumpkins were made using the Large Oval Punch, the 1" Circle Punch and the 3/4" Circle Punch.  I punched 3 of each and sponged the edges in Pumpkin Pie Classic Ink, before layering with SNAIL.  I used a scrap of Old Olive card stock for the stem and leaves.

I added a piece of Whisper White card stock on the inside left for my message.

This is an interesting fold for any type of card.  Depending upon where you cut, you can make a center step card with the tall section in the middle, narrower steps on the sides...the possibilities are endless.  House of Haunts is a great spooky stamp set without being too scary.  The owl in the tree is pretty cool, too!  As always, all supplies used are ©Stampin' Up!.

Boo! Boo! Boo!

Hi Stamping Friends,

Since I've had quilts on the brain lately, I decided to make a little crazy Halloween-colored quilt.  As always, all supplies used are from Stampin' Up!  I've had my Bigz Clear Scallop Square Die for quite a while now and haven't used it yet, so I placed a piece of folded Basic Black card stock on the die leaving the fold just below the top row of scallops.

I consider the background the focal point on this card.  I started by drawing a square approximately 4".  I then drew lines in a random fashion to create the crazy quilt pattern.  I layered pieces of Lucky Limeade, Pumpkin Pie and Rich Razzleberry card stock, as well as pieces of Rich Razzleberry and Pumpkin Pie Patterns from the Brights Patterns Designer Series Paper Stacks.  I placed my pattern on top and used a ruler and rotary cutter to cut the pattern.  Then, I mixed and matched the colored card stock and DSP Patterns into a pleasing design.
 

I glued these to a piece of Whisper White card stock using SNAIL Adhesive and squared up the piece to 3-3/4" square.  I ran this through the Big Shot in the Lattice Square Embossing Folder and then  layered it on another piece of Whisper White card stock.

I placed a piece of 1/4" Basic Black Grosgrain ribbon on the left and adhered the ends to the back side of the piece.  I, then, glued this to the card body using SNAIL Adhesive.

I used the Owl Builder Punch and punched an owl body from Whisper White card stock.  I trimmed off the little feet and turned it upside down to make a ghost.  I added a scrap piece of the 1/4" Basic Black Grosgrain and two little white "eyes" from the Owl Builder punch.  I used a little Crystal Effects to attach them to the ribbon.  The mouth is one of the eye parts from the Owl Builder punch.  This is attached to a Basic Black tag, punched with the Extra-Large Tag punch, with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The tag is attached to the card front using Mini Glue Dots.

"Boo" from the Tiny Tags stamp set is stamped in Basic Black classic ink on Whisper White, Lucky Limeade and Pumpkin Pie card stock scraps.  These are punched using the Jewelry Tag Punch and are glued near the center of the ribbon.  A piece of the Basic Black Grosgrain is slid under this and tied in a knot.  I always try and add any of the "lumpy" pieces after the layers are adhered to the card body.  It makes it so much easier to apply the SNAIL to a flat surface.

Elegant LInes and Dasher

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here is a card we made in class this month.  The Dasher stamp is one of my all time favorites.  It is an individual stamp from Stampin' Up!'s a la carte section of the catalog.

The card base is Whisper White card stock.  The next layer is also Whisper White card stock.  This one has been run through the Big Shot using the gorgeous Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. "Peace on Earth" is from the stamp set, Four the Holidays.  It is stamped in Versamark and dusted with Silver Embossing Powder.  I applied the Heat Tool to melt the embossing powder.  Is it just me, or does everyone love to see the metallic embossing powders just explode into shininess? 

At this point, I stamp my sentiment inside and heat emboss as I did with the greeting on the front.  You should always leave yourself a second chance to stamp the inside whenever possible, because, well, nobody's perfect.  This way if you don't like how it came out, you can refold the card body and use your front layer to cover up your least favorite result.

A piece of Whisper White Organza Ribbon is placed across the embossed layer and adhered on the back side.  This layer is attached to the card front using a fairly generous amount of SNAIL adhesive.  I used the new Dazzling Details, a glitter glue,  from the Holiday Mini catalog and "filled in" some of the embossed circles to add some sparkle.  Set this aside to give the glue time to dry.   This is one of my favorite new products in the Holiday Mini Catalog.

Dasher is stamped on Whisper White card stock in Versamark and heat embossed in silver as above.  This is layered on a piece of Brushed Silver card stock.  It's attached to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. 

A second piece of Whisper White Organza ribbon is slipped under the previously attached piece and tied in a knot.  I snuck a Mini Glue Dot under the knot to keep it in place.

Isn't this an elegant card?  It would be very fast and easy to make a dozen in no time at all.  One of the advantages in having white on white layers is that if your greeting isn't as straight as you would like, you can mount your layer a little off, keeping your greeting straight, and it won't be noticeable at all!  I'd love to hear what you think of this card.  Please leave a comment and make my day!

Frosty Stitched Stocking

Here's a card we made in class last month.  The ribbon/snowflake element was inspired by a card I saw on Jan Tink's Blog.

I seem to be really liking the mostly white Christmas cards this year.  I'll have another later on.  Here is one I did earlier.  This one uses my favorite new In Color - Pool Party. 

The base is Whisper White card stock.  The next layer is Pool Party card stock.  Layered on this is another piece of Whisper White card stock that has been run through the Big Shot using the Northern Flurry Embossing Folder.  The layers are attached using SNAIL Adhesive.  I've added a few Jewels Basic-Rhinestones to the center of the snowflakes.

The stocking is from the Holiday Mini catalog stamp set called Stitched Stockings.  It's stamped on Whisper White card stock in Pool Party classic ink.  It's punched out using the Stocking Builder Punch, also from the Holiday Mini catalog.  I've added a Rhinestone in the center of the snowflake.  If using the Clear Mount stamps, Clear Block "D" will accommodate all the stamps in the set.

The embellishment consists of a Die-Cut Snowflake, White Organza Ribbon, Pool Party 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon, another Die-Cut Snowflake and a Silver Mini Brad.  I used the Paper Piercer and Mat Pack to pierce through all the layers, including the stocking, and inserting a Mini Silver Brad.  The entire element is attached to the card front using several Mini Glue Dots.  I did add a Stampin' Dimensional under the toe of the stocking. 

The Snowflake Die Cut is made using the Big Shot and the Northern Frost Decorative Sizzlit Die.  You will need the Decorative Strip Cutting Pads and Spacer Platform.  This Sizzlit cuts 8 different snowflakes.  Click on the link for a closer look.

The greeting is from the stamp set, Christmas Greetings - one of my personal favorites, and is stamped in Pool Party Classic Ink on Whisper White card stock.  I used my Paper Snips to cut dovetails on the ends.  It's attached to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

This is a great stamp set and has a lot of different ways you can use the stockings, some very non-traditional.  I'll show you some in another post.  Here's what comes in the stamp set.  Aren't they cute?

Pennant Parade Meets Frostwood Lodge

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here's a CASE (copy and share everything) of a card that is in our monthly demonstrator magazine, Stampin' Success. 

I started with a base of Cherry Cobbler card stock that was 6" x 6-3/4".  I scored at 3-3/8" to make a card that measures 6" x 3-3/8".  This will fit in Stampin' Up!'s Small Open-End Envelopes (107286).

I punched a strip of Garden Green card stock using the Scallop Edge Border Punch. I adhered this behind the bottom edge of a strip of Frostwood Lodge Designer Series Paper using SNAIL Adhesive.

Next, I used the 2-1/2" Circle Punch to punch Garden Green card stock. 

Using the Pennant Parade stamp set, I stamped the pot and stem using Cherry Cobbler classic ink.  Next, I stamped the tree triangle from the same set using Garden Green classic ink on Whisper White card stock.  I stamped it again on a scrap to punch out and pop up later.  I stamped the star in Daffodil Delight classic ink.

I used the Petite Pennants Builder Punch to punch the tree I stamped on the scrap paper and added Stampin' Dimensionals to the back.  I used the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle to punch the centered stamped image and adhered this to the large Garden Green circle.  I attached the punched tree on top of the stamped image.  This element is attached to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The greeting is from the stamp set, Christmas Greetings, and is stamped in Garden Green classic ink.

I went a little crazy with the punches, but they're fun and it's a really fast card to make.

The Pennant Parade stamp set is so versatile!  Take a look at all the images included.  I used the Clear Mount version and Clear Block "C" will accomodate all the images in the set.

White Christmas

You know I love doing challenges!  This card features two challenges.  One is for a group I belong to called LateNightStampers.  They have weekly challenges and this week's was to make an all white card with only the sentiment showing color.  I have also used this week's sketch challenge over on Splitcoaststampers.

The only stamping on this card is the greeting, which is from the stamp set called Four the Holidays.  It is stamped on Whisper White in Island Indigo Classic Ink.

The entire card is made from Whisper White card stock.  The base is cut 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4".  The first layer is cut 5-1/4" x 4" and is run through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Before I attach this to the card body using Stampin' Dimensionals, I completed the following details.

I embossed a piece of Whisper White card stock using the Big Shot and the Perfect Details Texturz Plate.  For this plate you will also need the Standard Texturz Impressions Pad and the Standard Texturz Silicone Rubber.  I cut the embossed piece into four strips and attached using SNAIL Adhesive.  I added the stamped greeting strip, again using SNAIL.

I ran another strip of Whisper White card stock through he Big Shot using the Northern Frost Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die.  This is an extra long die (XL) so you will need the Decorative Strip Spacer Platform and Cutting Pads.  I sprayed the die cut snowflakes with a mixture of about an ounce of rubbing alcohol and several drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint mixed in a small spray bottle (shake well and often) to add shimmer.  You could also use a sponge to just dab the shimmer paint on the snowflakes.  I attached these using Stampin' Dimensionals and added some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the centers.

I did use the Big Shot with various folders and dies for adding a lot of texture.  When making a card with just one color, especially in white, adding texture really ups the WOW factor.

ETA:  I used the Round Tab Punch to get the curves at the bottoms of the strips.  I pushed them in as far as they would go...won't go far.  Click photo for a larger view.

Hi Stampers,

Now that Christmas is over, I can show you this project.  It is a Gift Certificate Holder/Envelope with a custom made box.  Each Christmas one of my dear friend/customer's hubby gets her a gift certificate and each year I try to come up with something worthy of such a gift.  All stamps and Designer Paper were from the Holiday Mini Catalog and are no longer available.  All supplies are © Stampin' Up! with the exception of the crochet thread and the business envelope.

I started with a business size envelope, 9-1/2" x 4-1/8".  After sealing it, I trimmed off about 3-1/2".  On this piece, I stamped the stockings from A Cute Christmas twice in Jet Black Stazon and colored using Garden Green, Real Red and Baja Breeze Stampin' Write Markers.  I added a strip of the glittered striped Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper along the cut edge and then punched using the Scallop Edge Border Punch.  Being careful not to cut through both layers,  I used the Hobby Blade to cut two slits on either side of the stamped image and threaded Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon around and through the slits, tying a bow on the right side.

On the bottom portion, I attached a different pattern of the same Candy Cane Christmas paper that coordinates with the stamp I used.  After adhering with SNAIL adhesive, I ran it through the Crimper, making it just small enough to fit inside the decorated top portion.

The tag is from the set Tags Til Christmas and is stamped in Baja Breeze Classic ink on a scrap of Whisper White card stock.  It's punched using a 1-3/4" Circle Extra Large Punch.  I used a 1/8" hand held circle punch and then, threaded Crochet Thread to attach to the ribbon.  I colored the snowman's scarf using a Real Red Stampin' Write marker and a Basic Black Stampin Write marker for the hat.

For the box, I measured the envelop and added approximately 1-1/2" all around.  I scored in 1/2" on each side for both top and bottom.  The bottom uses Garden Green card stock and the top is the same paper from Candy Cane Christmas that I used on the envelope top.

This can be made using any stamp set, with or without the designer series paper.  I'd like to point out that I did try and use designer paper on both the front and back of the envelope bottom and it did not crimp enough to fit into the top portion of the envelope.  You can use the same basic directions using the Medium Envelopes, adjusting the measurements proportionally.

Holiday Thank You Card

Hi Stampers,

I hope you all had a happy holiday season.  Happy New Year!

Here's one of the Thank You cards we made in class in December.  I was inspired by a card I saw in one of the card magazines which I can't seem to lay my hands on right now.  If it looks familiar to anyone, please leave a comment and let me know.

The base uses Crumb Cake card stock cut 4-1/4" x 11" and scored at 5-1/2".  The next layer is from the Jolly Holiday Designer Series Paper. 

The greeting is from the Hostess set, Afterthoughts.  It is stamped on Very Vanilla card stock using Riding Hood Red Classic Ink.  I sponged the edges using Crumb Cake Classic ink and attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.

I wrapped a piece of Riding Hood Red/Very Vanilla 1-1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon *, overlapping the ends.  Using crochet thread, I secured the ribbon to form a bow look.  I added a Button, die cut using Old Olive card stock, the Big shot and Buttons #5 Sizzlet.  I threaded the crochet thread and tied a loose bow.  I snipped the ends of the ribbon using my Paper Snips and added a Mini Glue Dot under the ribbon to secure in place.

This card takes less than 5 minutes to make.  Overlapping the ribbons eliminates a lot of bulk you would get if you tied the ribbon in a knot.
