Animal Stories Sketch Challenge

Hi Stampers,

Today I have a card for you that I made for the weekly sketch challenge on SUDSOL, a Demonstrator website.  I seem to be in kid mode lately, so I brought out the Stampin' Up! set called Animal Stories.  I stamped the images on Whisper White card stock using Chocolate Chip for the elephant, Rose Red for the Owl and So Saffron Classic inks for the giraffe. 

I stamped the giraffe twice and cut one out using my Paper Snips.  I love these little scissors.  They are nice and sharp and get into those little spots with relative ease.  It's hard to see from the picture, but the giraffe block has the image cut "out of the box".  In other words, I trimmed the card stock from around the head and legs, then trimmed the block to the size of the others.  My camera battery died before I could get another picture...sorry.  I will try and remember to take another one showing more clearly and add it to this post later.

The three blocks are mounted on a strip of Old Olive card stock.  The background for that strip is from the Designer Series Paper Collection called Tall Tales.  It has lots of whimsical designs just perfect for a child's card.

The Tall Tales DSP piece has a strip of Rose Red card stock edging the bottom that has been punched out using the Scallop Edge Punch.  Beneath that layer is a piece of Old Olive card stock that has also been punched using the same punch.

I added a length of Always Apricot 1/4" Grosgrain ribbon (doesn't sound like it would match, but it's perfect) and adhered on the back side.  A smaller piece is slipped under and tied into a single not...easy peasy way to add ribbon to a project. 

The strip is adhered to the Designer Paper layer using SNAIL Adhesive.  All the layers are attached to the card body, which is Chocolate Chip card stock, using SNAIL.  The trimmed out giraffe is popped up using Stampin' Dimensionals and overlays the stamped image on the block.

Wandering Words Meet Cocoa Christmas

Hi Stampers!

Hope life is not too crazy for you these days!  I am officially done with cookie making and making and sending Christmas cards and I can breathe a sigh of relief.  Here is a project I made for display at my Open House last week.  It is a card purse and set of four cards.  The tote is made from a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.  If you search Resourses for Card Purse, it will pop up.  I don't have the link right now. I did use Sticky Strip to secure the purse.

The card design was inspired by this card from Andrea Walford.  The base for both the cards and the purse is Chocolate Chip card stock.  The focal image starts with a base of Real Red card stock.  Santa and his sleigh is from the Stampin' Up! set. Wandering Words, from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  This is stamped in Chocolate Chip Classic ink on Whisper White card stock.  The bottom half is from the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper Collection, also in the Holiday Mini.  I can't get enough of this paper.  All the designs are awesome!

Real Red 1/4" grosgrain ribbon is wrapped along the seam.  A small piece of ribbon makes the knot.

The card purse is embellished with Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads and 5/8" Real Red Grosgrain ribbon for the handles. I dabbed the 2-Way Glue pen on the stars of the stamped image and added Dazzling Diamond Glitter.  It really sparkles in real life.  This makes a nice little hostess gift for those holiday parties...if you can give it away...LOL.  Wandering Words is a very versatile set that is only available through January 4, 2010.  It covers Fall, Christmas and Valentine's Day.  Click on the image for a closer look.  Click HERE to see all the products in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  Don't forget - January 4th is the last day to order from this Mini.

Who's Clean & Simple?

Hi Stampers!

I have a card for you today that is VERY simple.  I made it for a challenge on SUDSOL, a Demonstrator Only group I belong to.  The challenge was to use one layer of card stock and one popped up embellishment.  All supplies are © Stampin' Up!  I love the new set, Animal Stories, and wanted to use the owl on this card.  The card base is Whisper White card stock.  I drew a very light pencil line about two inches up from the bottom to make it easier to line up my owls.  I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to position them exactly where I wanted them.  They are stamped using Summer Sun, Tempting Turquoise and Only Orange Classic inks.  Once the owls were stamped, I used my Fiskar Cutter with the scoring blade to scored two lines under the owls to add a little interest.  Use a soft eraser to clean up any visible pencil marks.  The butterfly is from the stamp set, Flight of the Butterfly.  I used Lovely Lilac Classic ink and stamped on Whisper White card stock.  Using my paper snips, I trimmed around the image and cut off a small piece of Stampin' Dimensional to pop it up.  The greeting is one from the set, Teeny Tiny Wishes.  The stamp actually reads "hello baby", but I used my Basic Black Stampin' Write marker to ink just the word "hello".  This is a new set in the catalog and I can't believe how many times I've used it.  There are 24 phrases included in this set.  Pair them up with the Stamp-a-ma-jig and you can position a sentiment almost anywhere.

Although I used the Classic Stampin' Pads to ink my stamps, you could easily use the Stampin' Write markers in your choice of colors to apply ink.  Another choice of ink would be the Classic Stampin' Spots.  These are a sets of twelve, one inch ink pads, for each of the color families.  It's a great way to get lots of colors without a lot of expense.

Animal Stories' Tall Tales

Hi Stampers,

Here's a card I made using the sketch challenge this week (SC237) on Splitcoaststampers found here.  All supplies are © Stampin' Up!® 

I am using the stamp set called Animal Stories and the Designer Series Paper - Tall Tales.  When I saw this sketch, I knew I wanted to use the giraffe from this stamp set.  The card stock I've used includes Old Olive Textured card stock, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White.  All elements are layered on Chocolate Chip card stock.  For the focal image I stamped the giraffe using So Saffron Classic Ink on Whisper White card stock.  I re-inked and stamped again on a scrap of Whisper White and trimmed out the giraffe.  I layered the trimmed giraffe onto the focal image with Stampin' Dimensionals, offsetting a bit.  Rose Red and Old Olive brads were added in opposite corners.  This was also attached to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. The greeting and inside sentiment are from the set On Your Birthday.  They are stamped in Chocolate Chip classic ink. 

On the inside I used a strip of the floral Designer Paper and trimmed around the tops of the flowers.  I stamped the top portion of the giraffe in So Saffron classic ink and trimmed it, inserting it behind the flowers.  This will be my little niece's birthday card.
