Up, Up & Away Meets The Mountains

Hi Stampers,

Here's a card I made for a friend who winters in Florida and lives in the Adirondack Mts in the summer.   I thought I'd make him a card showing mountains and hot air balloons you often see there.

The card base is Whisper White card stock.  I've added a layer using SNAIL, that has been embossed using the Big Shot and Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

I used post-it notes that I cut in random curves to mask for the sponging, using Always Artichoke, Garden Green and Wild Wasabi shades of green.  The sky is sponged with Bashful Blue.  I adhered this to a Whisper White mat, added Dimensionals and set aside.

The balloons are from the stamp set, Up, Up & Away.  I stamped each balloon three times on Whisper White card stock.  I used Real Red and Island Indigo ink.  I wanted each balloon to be three dimensional on the card, so after cutting each one out, I scored them vertically and folded in half. *I used a generous amount of SNAIL to attach them, gluing the right half of one to the left half of the another.  Then, I glued the right half of that one to the left half of the third balloon. This gives you the dimension and a relatively flat surface on the back side.  I glued each balloon to a scrap of Whisper White card stock that was stamped with the basket in Soft Suede and cut them out again.  This is really much harder explaining how to do it than it is to actually do it...lol.  I used SNAIL to attach them to the sponged panel.

I stamped "thinking of you" from the set, Teeny Tiny Wishes, in Garden Green ink on Whisper White card stock.  I used the Bitty Banners Framelits to die cut the greeting.  It's attached using Stampin' Dimensionals.  I attached the panel to the card front and it's finished.

* An alternative to SNAIL would be the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Bells & Boughs CAS

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here's another challenge card from SUDSOL, this time a sketch challenge.  It was a very simple sketch, so I wanted to keep my card CAS; in other words, clean and simple.  The picture is a little dark...sorry.  The clouds moved in quickly this afternoon.

There are 3 pieces of card stock used in this card.  The base is Whisper White card stock. 

I stamped an image from Bells & Boughs in Jet Black Stazon on Whisper White card stock.  I used a Real Red Stampin' Write Marker to color in the holly berries.  Then, I used a Blender Pen and Garden Green Classic Ink to color in the leaves.  Whether you use Black Stazon or Basic Black Classic ink, be sure it is completely dry before you start using your Blender Pens.  I used Real Red Classic Ink to stamp the greeting that comes with the Bells & Boughs set.

This is layered on Real Red card stock.  Before adhering this to the card front, I placed it where I wanted it and made some measurements.  Then, I took the base and, using the fabulous Simply Scored tool, added some score lines to frame the focal image.  I scored from the inside so the score lines would be raised, rather than indented.  The focal image is adhered with SNAIL Adhesive. 

That is it!!  This card took less than 10 minutes to make.  The coloring goes quicly.  Now, I haven't added a sentiment inside, but that would be the first thing I would do.  And, I would use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to do it.  If it doesn't come out as you had hoped, do a little refolding and try again.  You can cover up your less pleasing attempt with the focal image.  Or, if you don't mind, you could simply add another piece of card stock to the inside (after stamping your sentiment on it).  A great set for holiday sentiments is More Merry Messages.  Click on any image for a larger view. Loving Thoughts Meet the Challenges

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here's a project I made that fits three challenges for this week... LateNightStampers #177 (anything but a card), Technostamper's Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge225 and ColourQChallenge - cQc#141.

I love those chunky note pads you can buy at Staples and decided to use one for the LNS challenge. Check out the sketch I used at the link above.  The colors for the ColourQChallenge are Lucky Limeade, Bashful Blue, Brocade Blue, Night of Navy and Whisper White.  I didn't have Brocade Blue, so used Marina Mist instead.

Marina Mist is glued to the front cover.  Next up is Whisper White, a Bashful Blue Banner and two Lucky Limeade Stripes.

Since this will get a lot of use, I layered the sketch elements, except the frame, and ran them through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Layer this to the notebook using a generous amount of SNAIL Adhesive.

The frame is Night of Navy and was run through the Big Shot using one of the Designer Frames Embossing Folders and trimmed out.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the three words from the stamp set Loving Thoughts.  Three little flowers were punched from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and attached to the frame using Silver Mini Brads.  I used Mini Glue Dots and a generous amount of SNAIL to adhere to the notebook cover.  So, you see the before picture.

I thought it needed something, so I collected a bunch of coordinating ribbons, some retired, but all Stampin' Up!  I know this style was all the rage a while ago, but I had never made anything like it.  What do you think?  More ribbon?  Less ribbon?  No ribbon?  I'm not sure I like it.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Telescoping Berry Blossoms

Hi Stamping Friends,

Here's a cool card we made in class last month.  It's called a Telescoping Card.  It was so fun to make and it gave me the chance to play with my Circle Scissors Plus!  I was a little afraid to use it, but it is so easy once you know the secret...that is, Dotto!  I just laid down some Dotto, a repositionable adhesive, on the Circle Scissors Plus Glass Cutting Mat and it worked perfectly! 

To start, I used the Scallop Circle Die and the Big Shot to die cut an Early Expresso card stock base.  This is layered with a Calypso Coral circle on which I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set, Full of Life, in Early Expresso Classic Ink. I did use the Early Expresso Stampin' Write Marker to color the sentiment because I did not want to use all the words included on the stamp.  This completes the bottom section.

Next, I used the Circle Scissors Plus and cut a Wisteria Wonder card stock circle and a slightly smaller Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper circle and attached to each other using SNAIL Adhesive.  Middle section done.

The top section and card "front" is a circle of Lucky Limeade card stock cut with the Circle Scissors Plus and a Whisper White card stock circle punched with the 2-1/2" Circle Punch. * The greeting is from the stamp set Curly Cute.  Before adhering the two layers together, I inserted a small piece of Certainly Celery 5/8" Satin Ribbon to make a pull tab.

The flowers are die cut using the Floral Fusion Sizzlit in Calypso Coral and Wisteria Wonder card stocks.  I also die cut a Lucky Limeade one to use as leaves.  I used the Paper Piercing Tool and Mat Pack in the center of each flower and Gold Brads are added.  The Wisteria Wonder flower has the largest layer omitted and a small flower from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack as the top layer.  These are attached using Stampin' Dimensionals and a Mini Glue Dot.

To assemble, layer the bottom section and middle section, making sure it is centered.  Use the Paper Piercing Tool and Mat Pack and pierce  a hole near the top of the middle section and add a Gold Brad.

Next, with the middle section open, center the top over it and pierce another hole and add the Gold Brad. This brad will appear at the bottom of your top front section with the card in the closed position.  You will have to pay attention to the direction your greeting is placed before piercing the hole for this Brad.

This is such a fun card to make and it really is fast and easy.  Our Medium Square Envelopes are perfect for mailing these cards, but may require extra postage.  My feeling is that if you are going to take the extra time to make a special card like this, then the extra postage is so worth it.

* Here's a tip..stamp your greeting on a piece of scrap paper first and then punch out your circle.  You will be able to perfectly place your greeting, but make sure your scrap paper is big enough to accomodate the punch you want to use.

Fun Flowers Case Challenge

Hi Stamping Friends,

I made this for the weekly case challenge last week on SUDSOL.  This was cased from a sample in our Demonstrator monthly magazine, Stampin' Success.   If you're a Demonstrator, scroll down to the link in the left side bar to learn more about SUDSOL.

The finished card measures 3" x 6". I used Peach Parfait card stock, cut 6" x 6" and scored at 3".  

I added a strip of one of the designs from the Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper, a Sneak Peek Special from last month.  It is punched along the bottom using the Scallop Edge Border Punch and attached to the card front using SNAIL Adhesive.  I wrapped Linen Thread around twice and tied a bow.

The greeting is from the stamp set, Wonderful Favorites, and is stamped using Cherry Cobbler Classic Ink.  I used the Stamp-a-ma-jig (a stamp positioning system) to get just the right placement of the words.  I added five Jewels Basic Pearls as an accent.

The flower is die cut using the Fun Flowers Bigz Die and the Big Shot.  The largest layer uses Marina Mist card stock.  The next two layers use Baja Breeze card stock.  The flower center is cut from Peach Parfait and Cherry Cobbler card stock.  The leaves are punched from Old Olive card stock using the Large Oval Punch and trimmed to a point on one end using my Paper Snips.  Before assembling the flower, I misted heavily using our Stampin' Mist Cleaner, and crumpled the three layers into tight little balls.  You can use water, too, but the Stampin' Mist makes is smell nice too!  I gently un-crumpled the layers and let sit to dry.  When dry, I sponged the edges using Marina Mist Classic Ink and sponge. The layers are attached using Mini Glue Dots.  I added three more Jewels Basic Pearls to the center of the flower.  It's attached to the card front using Mini Glue Dots.

I will use the Small Open-End Envelopes to mail this.  As always, all supplies used are © Stampin' Up!

Paisley Petals Birthday Sneak Peak

Hi Stampers,

Here is a sneak peak at some fabulous new Designer Series Paper called Paisley Petals that will be in the new Idea Book & Catalog coming this July.  I'll be announcing a special promotion being offered during the month of April.

This card is based on a sketch challenge from Create with Connie & Mary.

The card base is Chocolate Chip card stock.  The next layer is Baja Breeze card stock.  I love this color!!

The Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper is layered on a Chocolate Chip mat.  You will love this paper.  It coordinates with many different colors.  A Baja Breeze 1/2" Seam Binding bow is attached with a Mini Glue Dot.

I used the Scallop Square Extra Large Punch to punch out three Chocolate Chip squares.  Each one has buttierfiles that were cut using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and the Big Shot.  I used Baja Breeze, River Rock and Chocolate Chip card stocks to die cut the butterflies.  These three elements are attached to the card using Stampin' DImensionals.

I added pearls from the Jewels-Basic Pearls to the buterflies and attached the butterflies to the scallop squares using Mini Glue Dots.

The greeting is from the stamp set, Curly Cute, and is stamped in Chocolate Chip Classic Ink on Whisper White card stock.  It's hard to tell, but it's layered on a piece of Baja Breeze card stock and attached using SNAIL.   A tiny Chocolate Chip butterfly accents the greeting.  The only stamping on this card is the greeting.  I love this color combination, and you will love the new Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper.

Gift Certificate Holder with Box

Hi Stampers,

Now that Christmas is over, I can show you this project.  It is a Gift Certificate Holder/Envelope with a custom made box.  Each Christmas one of my dear friend/customer's hubby gets her a gift certificate and each year I try to come up with something worthy of such a gift.  All stamps and Designer Paper were from the Holiday Mini Catalog and are no longer available.  All supplies are © Stampin' Up! with the exception of the crochet thread and the business envelope.

I started with a business size envelope, 9-1/2" x 4-1/8".  After sealing it, I trimmed off about 3-1/2".  On this piece, I stamped the stockings from A Cute Christmas twice in Jet Black Stazon and colored using Garden Green, Real Red and Baja Breeze Stampin' Write Markers.  I added a strip of the glittered striped Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper along the cut edge and then punched using the Scallop Edge Border Punch.  Being careful not to cut through both layers,  I used the Hobby Blade to cut two slits on either side of the stamped image and threaded Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon around and through the slits, tying a bow on the right side.

On the bottom portion, I attached a different pattern of the same Candy Cane Christmas paper that coordinates with the stamp I used.  After adhering with SNAIL adhesive, I ran it through the Crimper, making it just small enough to fit inside the decorated top portion.

The tag is from the set Tags Til Christmas and is stamped in Baja Breeze Classic ink on a scrap of Whisper White card stock.  It's punched using a 1-3/4" Circle Extra Large Punch.  I used a 1/8" hand held circle punch and then, threaded Crochet Thread to attach to the ribbon.  I colored the snowman's scarf using a Real Red Stampin' Write marker and a Basic Black Stampin Write marker for the hat.

For the box, I measured the envelop and added approximately 1-1/2" all around.  I scored in 1/2" on each side for both top and bottom.  The bottom uses Garden Green card stock and the top is the same paper from Candy Cane Christmas that I used on the envelope top.

This can be made using any stamp set, with or without the designer series paper.  I'd like to point out that I did try and use designer paper on both the front and back of the envelope bottom and it did not crimp enough to fit into the top portion of the envelope.  You can use the same basic directions using the Medium Envelopes, adjusting the measurements proportionally.

Wandering Words Meet Cocoa Christmas

Hi Stampers!

Hope life is not too crazy for you these days!  I am officially done with cookie making and making and sending Christmas cards and I can breathe a sigh of relief.  Here is a project I made for display at my Open House last week.  It is a card purse and set of four cards.  The tote is made from a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers.  If you search Resourses for Card Purse, it will pop up.  I don't have the link right now. I did use Sticky Strip to secure the purse.

The card design was inspired by this card from Andrea Walford.  The base for both the cards and the purse is Chocolate Chip card stock.  The focal image starts with a base of Real Red card stock.  Santa and his sleigh is from the Stampin' Up! set. Wandering Words, from the Holiday Mini Catalog.  This is stamped in Chocolate Chip Classic ink on Whisper White card stock.  The bottom half is from the Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper Collection, also in the Holiday Mini.  I can't get enough of this paper.  All the designs are awesome!

Real Red 1/4" grosgrain ribbon is wrapped along the seam.  A small piece of ribbon makes the knot.

The card purse is embellished with Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads and 5/8" Real Red Grosgrain ribbon for the handles. I dabbed the 2-Way Glue pen on the stars of the stamped image and added Dazzling Diamond Glitter.  It really sparkles in real life.  This makes a nice little hostess gift for those holiday parties...if you can give it away...LOL.  Wandering Words is a very versatile set that is only available through January 4, 2010.  It covers Fall, Christmas and Valentine's Day.  Click on the image for a closer look.  Click HERE to see all the products in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  Don't forget - January 4th is the last day to order from this Mini.

Holiday Window Treat Box

Here's a cute little treat box I made to hand out some yummy Christmas cookies in.  I followed a great video tutorial by Julie Buhler found here.  I will just let you know what I used to construct the box.  The dimensions and process can be seen on the video.

For the basic box and lid I used Taken With Teal card stock.  I used my now retired Coluzzle to cut the ovals.  You could also use a circle or square punch or ruler and hobby blade to cut your opening.  A piece of Designer Series Paper from the Holiday Lounge collection was used to decorate.  I used acetate to cover the oval opening.  The white dots were added using a Signo Gel Pen.  One of the pieces of Holiday Lounge paper has assorted tree sizes.  I cut out the smallest one and added Silver Elastic Cord as trim using Mini Glue Dots to hold in place on the back side.  I added this to the box front using Stampin' Dimensionals. 

Before assembling the lid, each edge was punched with the Scallop Edge Punch.  Slits were made using the Slot Punch (you can use a hobby blade too).  Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon was wrapped vertically around the box and threaded through the slots in the lid and tied in a bow.

The finished box measures 4" tall.  It is approximately 2-3/4" square.  Four to six cookies fit very nicely in a small cello bag inside.

Stocking Gift Card Holder

Hi Stampers!

Here is a cute stocking gift card holder.  This was Monday's Try a New Technique Challenge over on Splitcoast.  You can find the template, made by Claire Brennan, in the Challenge listing.  I traced the template onto a piece of Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper, using the reverse side for the toe and heel sections.  I layered the toe and heel with Whisper White card stock and used a Soft Suede Stampin' Write marker to add some faux stitching.

The top portion (the back template piece) is scored and folded to create the cuff.  I layered this with a strip of Soft Suede card stock and a piece of Whisper White card stock that had been punched with the Eyelet Border Punch.  I wrapped a piece of 1/4" Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon and tied a bow. 

The greeting is from the set, Teeny Tiny Wishes, and is stamped in Soft Suede Classic ink (marker) and punched with the Word Window punch.  This is layered on a piece of Soft Suede card stock that was punched using the Modern Label Punch.

Lift the flap and you have a pocket to hold your gift card.  What a fun and unique way to  present a gift card!!
